What are paddlesports?

Paddle sports are any type of sport that you do on the water while using a paddle. These include watercraft like: canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and more. They can be done on a river, pond, lake, or the ocean.

If you own a watercraft and you plan on taking it to multiple bodies of water, its very important to stop invasive species from entering a new body of water. Please follow the “Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers Guides from the DCR”.  Certain bodies of water like Spot Pond, for example, require that you only use their watercraft to avoid any contamination on that body of water.

For all personal watercraft, a life jacket / personal flotation device (PFD) is required according to Massachusetts state law. Please learn more about this requirement here. There are no areas within the city of Malden to launch a motorboat.

Anyone interested in using and protecting access to the tidelands or other waterways with the city of Malden and state should know about Chapter 91, which helps to serve to protect the rights of the public to access waterways.
